Project Offline Styria launches sister project in Carinthia

For almost 20 years now, the Offline project in Styria has been offering people suffering from addiction the opportunity to find regular employment and (re)enter working life. Now, a sister project has been launched in Carinthia, where participants can work in various fields. Both projects are financed by the charitable Santner Private Foundation and implemented by Caritas Styria and Caritas Carinthia.

Location in the city center of Klagenfurt
The newly opened Offline Carinthia location is in Doktor-Hermann-Gasse in the center of Klagenfurt.
“Addictions are increasingly becoming an outlet for people who are overwhelmed by the accelerating pace and growing complexity of life. One of our companies, Anton Paar ShapeTec GmbH, has been operating a manufacturing site in Wolfsberg for several years. For this reason, we have decided to expand the Offline project to Carinthia. In doing so, we are deliberately taking on social responsibility. We want to support people in finding stability and pursuing a life that is as self-determined and dignified as possible,” says Friedrich Santner, chairman of the management board.

Low-threshold access to work and social-educational support
Returning to work after or during a period of dealing with addiction can be a major challenge. The aim of Offline is to make this new start easier for these people. Anyone aged 25 or over who is physically and mentally able to carry out appropriate work is eligible to participate.
During their time in the project, participants also have access to the case management team for psychosocial support, which provides rapid assistance in the event of acute problems.

Areas of activity at Offline Carinthia
In the Carinthian project, participants are involved in existing Caritas employment schemes. A key area is food distribution: they support the organization and logistics of goods, as well as the preparation and distribution of food and hygiene items. The work not only provides participants with a meaningful daily structure, but also an opportunity for social contact – both within the team and with people who visit the food distribution center. In addition, cards, design and decorative items are produced or pieces are sewn in a creative workshop. These are available in the brücken-werk-shop in Klagenfurt. Another area of activity is gardening, where skills in growing and harvesting vegetables or herbs are gained, as well as manual tasks related to landscape work are completed.

After an introductory phase, a joint decision is made as to which area of work best suits the individual skills of each person.
